Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Facilities/Maintenance Technician at The YMCA of the Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.  The Facilities/Maintenance Technician will perform required maintenance of all YMCA properties as directed, perform repairs when necessary, ensure facilities are in order for events, and assist with after hours issues/emergencies. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare facility for daily opening; complete walk-through after closing to ensure that the facility is secure.
  • Assist in the overall appearance, general operation and repair of all association facilities and mechanical systems.
  • Assist with after-hours emergencies when called upon, such as snow removal.
  • Maintains department’s recordkeeping system on inspection reports, work orders, inventory forms and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Implements maintenance systems, procedures, standards and PM schedules
  • Completes material/ supply purchase request log sheets and inspects product for purchase compliance, i.e. quality, quantity and order specification.
  • Performs daily work orders, i.e. painting, fixing locks, changing lights, HVAC systems, pool equipment, and moving items; Help co-ordinate any necessary vendor and contractor activities.
  • Perform random and regular facility room setups/ breakdowns
  • Receive deliveries and distributes appropriately as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities using maintenance industry’s best methods during the process.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with the budgetary guidelines.
  • Keeps abreast of new maintenance systems, products and standards which will enable the GMC YMCA to improve its physical appearance and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and other duties deemed necessary by Camp Director, Association Branch Executives and Director of Facilities & Properties.
  • Advises Camp Director, Association Branch Executives and Director of Facilities & Properties of potential problems, repairs and/or replacements needed.
  • Continually survey buildings and grounds for cleanliness, hazards and to identify maintenance needs.
  • Respond to work orders and maintenance concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and demonstrate a mature, professional attitude at the workplace.
  • Ability to understand both written and verbal commands in English, plus be able to perform all phases of pool and equipment maintenance procedures and repairs necessary to maintain the facility.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years recent hands-on working experience, with a strong technical working knowledge of general mechanical, carpentry, some knowledge of electrical systems, pool maintenance and repair, HV/AC controls, plumbing, plus strong troubleshooting skill
  • Valid Low Pressure Black Seal Boiler Operator’s License required.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License in good standing required.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certificate required or within 120 Days of hire.
