This individual serves in a clinical capacity as a Primary Clinical Counselor and carries an assigned caseload of adults with mental health, substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders.  All clinical services are offered in compliance with agency requirements for licensure and accreditation.  Service provision includes evaluative services, clinical treatment, therapeutic interventions and discharge planning, as well as monitoring client progress related to psychotropic medication.  Consultation with referral sources and completing progress reports is necessary, as indicated.  Individual, group and family therapy are the core clinical offerings of this position.  This position includes providing services at multiple locations including the outpatient office and counseling satellite locations which will require acting as the agency liaison as indicated.

• Available a minimum of 2 nights per week
• Maintains a minimum caseload size of 34 adults and adolescent and provides a minimum of 28 face to face sessions weekly.
• Assessing the counseling needs of the clients.
• Assessing clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool, and diagnosing clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5.
• Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
• Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.
• Unless clinically contraindicated, collaborating with the client to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is client centered, recovery oriented.
• The Adult Mental Health and SUD Clinical Counselor shall develop, monitor and provide the client and treatment team a written schedule to update each client treatment plan(s) in order to ensure clients' needs are met.
• Providing the substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan.
• Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria, to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer.
• Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems.
• Developing a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
• Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources, (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP).
• Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
• Providing active case consultation.
• Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the client's clinical record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.
• Applies the Stages of Change Theory, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy and other effective therapeutic approaches.
• Adheres to confidentiality limits as required by law and licensing standards.
• Conferences shared clinical cases with supervisor and cooperating counselor(s).
• Takes responsibility for improving clinical skills and expanding knowledge base related to effective strategies for treating and meeting the needs of caseload as well as maintaining engagement of clients and caregivers.
• Represents the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County Counseling & Social Services in a professional and positive manner within the community and with agency referral resources.
• Actively seeks supervision in response to client needs.
• Is responsive in supervisory sessions and receptive to identifying training needs.
• Represents YMCA in a professional and positive manner within the community and with agency referral resources and is supportive of YMCA Annual Campaign fundraising efforts.

• This position is substance abuse specific and requires the expertise of a clinician trained and experienced in substance abuse treatment with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Clinical Counseling, Social Work or other related Human Services concentration accompanied by New Jersey licensure LAC/LPC, LSW/ LCSW or eligibility is required.
• Additionally, LCADC licensure or eligibility is preferred CADC license required.
• It is additionally required this Counselor demonstrate competency with regard to planning treatment for Co-Occurring services.
• Counselor needs to demonstrate proficiency in individual, group and family therapy.
• Able to conduct a diagnostic interview toward the development of a relevant treatment plan.
• Ability to speak and write in a clear and concise manner.
• This position requires an individual, who is a good team player. Demonstration of a high level of cultural competence, sensitivity and responsiveness is also necessary.
