Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the YMCA oversight of the swim lesson program, which includes fiscal responsibility, staffing and supervision. The primary responsibilities of this position includes the oversight, planning, staffing and supervising  and delivering a program which brings the joy of swimming to children and adults using the YMCA Swim Lessons Curriculum while providing direct service as an instructor. The Aquatics Director will be the principal contact for parents and participants for the YMCA swim lessons and aquatics certification programs. The Director will create the lesson schedule, deliver and manage swim lessons programs in the YMCA’s CRM database (Daxko)and conduct monthly in-service trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and support to YMCA aquatics programming by providing private and group lessons and certification courses and appropriately mentoring swim Instructors including conducting effective onboarding and training for new employees.
  • Implements a swim lesson and aquatics certification program which drives an increase in participant enrollment resulting in attaining revenue and budget goals as set by the Executive Director.
  • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Leads the department by developing schedules, overseeing guards, ensuring all safety and risk prevention policies are followed.
  • Assists the other Association Directors with maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pools, on decks and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.
  • Develops positive relationships with participants and parents encouraging involvement and identifying potential volunteers and donors.
  • Assists as needed with pool administration including the creation of the Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Master’s Program and the Swim Instructor schedules.
  • Assists with recording maintenance logs and communicating any maintenance issues to facility manager.
  • Attends and leads staff meetings, and training as required.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Responds to emergency situations as needed. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Keeping areas safe. Reports damaged equipment to supervisor and places orders for approved equipment.
  • Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA Health programs and/or staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Current American Red Cross lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED and oxygen administration certifications.
  • YMCA Swim Lesson V.6 Instructor Certification, within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist children and others in the development of swimming skills.
  • Ability to teach skills to others.
  • Completes Online Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens and Unlawful Harassment Prevention training within 30 days.
  • Completes Online Safe Lifting and Slips, Trip and Fall Training within 90 days.
  • Will complete The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County New Team Member Orientation within 90 days.
  • Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness
  • CPO preferred or obtained within six months
  • Ability to work evenings, and weekends.
