This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Therapeutic Visitation Clinician at The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.
The Therapeutic Visitation Program provides supervised visitation facilitated by a licensed mental health practitioner for the purpose of preventing or repairing damage to the parent–child relationship and helping parents to understand and respond to their child’s emotional or physical needs in an appropriate manner. The clinician provides structured interactive guidance on parent-child communication with a focus on positive bonding & nurturing skills.
The clinician is part of a larger program that works collaboratively to facilitate the return of children that have been separated from their parents for a variety of reasons. All team members working within these programs are expected to maintain the belief that a family is the primary nurturing environment of a child. It is expected that the program clinician will work to establish a partnership with referred families to empower them toward solving their own problems. All team members presume that every person is capable of growth and change. The clinician will work with referring agencies and the court system to communicate progress or lack thereof and to make necessary recommendations for future or alternate services needed.
